Our knowledge about which parts of the brain are associated with particular functions is based on a vast number of scientific studies conducted over the past 30 years. Modern measurement techniques have led to explosive growth in our knowledge about how the brain works.

One of these measurement techniques is quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG). This technique measures the activity of large groups of brain cells in the cerebral cortex, using electrodes that are placed on the scalp.

  • As far as day-to-day activities are concerned, an imbalance discovered in the qEEG can be improved by means of operant conditioning. This has the positive side effect of reducing any associated psychological, emotional or physical complaints.
  • If a temporary increase in favourable brain activity is rewarded (e.g. if this results in a positive outcome being played on the monitor or through the headphones), over time the individual will display this brain activity more frequently and with less effort.
